9 Companies Investing In Employee Mental Health

Written by Lindsay Li | 9/29/26, 11:00 AM

There’s a big difference between listing wellness benefits on a careers page and giving employees meaningful ways to manage stress and maintain a life outside of work. Mental health support can include access to therapy, coaching, and resources; flexibility in how employees manage their time; and a culture that gives employees the confidence to ask for and get support when they need it.

The companies on this list stand out for making their approach to mental health tangible, with publicly available benefits and career materials that point to specific resources. They communicate, even before day one, that health and wellness are a priority.

Here are nine companies putting concrete mental health and wellbeing practices into the employee experience.

Wells Fargo

Location: Columbus, OH

Wells Fargo offers a broad benefits package that addresses mental health, caregiving, and life outside work. The global bank demonstrates what comprehensive mental health support can look like at scale. For instance, Wells Fargo's Employee Assistance Program gives employees and their families six free virtual or in-person sessions per issue per calendar year, up to 12 sessions, along with 24/7 consultation and referral support for personal and work-related concerns. Employees also have access to wellness coaching, an online health portal, a mental health app, educational webinars, and wellbeing newsletters.

The company's medical benefits include mental health and substance-use services, with virtual care available for mental health needs. Employees looking for ongoing ways to support their well-being have additional options, including wellness coaching, an online health portal, a mental health app, educational webinars, and well-being newsletters.

When it comes to taking time away, Wells Fargo's benefits extend beyond traditional PTO. Eligible employees can receive up to 16 weeks of paid parental leave as a primary caregiver or four weeks as a non-primary caregiver, along with paid critical caregiving leave. The company also provides backup-care resources, including up to 20 days of backup child care and five days of backup adult care. At Wells Fargo, mental health support isn't limited to a single benefit, but instead offers a comprehensive approach that connects counseling and wellbeing resources with the practical realities that can contribute to stress—caregiving, family building, health needs, and time away from work.

TechTown Detroit

Location: Detroit, MI

TechTown is Wayne State University's entrepreneurship hub and a nonprofit organization supporting startups and small businesses across Southeast Michigan. Its benefits package makes mental health days a distinct part of its approach to time off. Full-time employees receive 12 paid Mental Health Days per year, in addition to five weeks of paid time off and 23 paid holidays. The holiday schedule includes a week-long July break and two weeks in December.

TechTown’s workplace is wellness-focused, with an on-site wellness room and wellness programming, along with paid parental leave and a team member assistance program. With a human-centered culture built around inclusion, humanity, collaboration, and accessibility, TechTown demonstrates that its values align with its broader mission of creating an equitable entrepreneurial ecosystem in Detroit.

Rula

Location: Remote

Rula is a healthcare company on a mission to make mental healthcare more accessible, so it's fitting that its employee benefits put a clear emphasis on boundaries and recovery. Rula explicitly connects its remote culture to healthy boundaries, saying that work-life balance is important because setting boundaries is part of caring for mental wellbeing.

The standout benefit is its two company-wide shutdown weeks each year for self-care. Employees also receive an Employee Assistance Program that provides short-term mental health support and counseling in addition to their health coverage. For a company whose mission is centered on mental healthcare, the alignment between external mission and internal workplace practices is particularly notable.

Campminder

Location: Boulder, CO

Campminder is a SaaS company that builds web and mobile management platforms specifically for the summer camp industry. The internal culture borrows heavily from a summer camp ethos, emphasizing community, joy, and employee engagement. Perks include pet-friendly hybrid/remote flexibility, wellness stipends, the first Friday of every month off, and communal events.

The company provides a $300 annual wellness stipend that employees can use toward wellness purchases or reimbursements. Their careers page identifies mental health as a top-down priority, and its approach to time off is trust-based. Campminder doesn't cap PTO and says employees take an average of three to six weeks of vacation per year.

Employees receive nine paid holidays, and Campminder specifically encourages employees to take additional days off for their heritage, religion, birthdays, or other occasions that are meaningful to them. The company also provides up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave for eligible full-time employees following a birth, adoption, or foster-care placement.

Tighten

Location: Remote

Remote software consultancy Tighten takes a structural approach to work-life balance. Employees bill clients for 32 hours per week, leaving eight hours for learning, open-source work, and blogging.

Tighten also explicitly gives employees permission to step away from work for everyday needs. For example, if someone needs to pause their day for an afternoon nap or to pick up their kids from school, they can do so and return when they're ready. The company also provides a wellness stipend, specifically acknowledging the physical and mental health challenges associated with sedentary desk work.

Employees receive three weeks of vacation, two weeks of sick time, paid holidays, and family and parental leave.

Figma

Location: Remote

Design collaboration company Figma lists mental health and wellness benefits as a standalone component of its employee benefits package, alongside health insurance, generous PTO, parental and fertility support, and company recharge days.

Figma's culture materials emphasize connection and community, including employee-led Figmate Community Groups organized around shared characteristics and life experiences. These groups are open to all employees, whether or not they identify with a particular community. Taken together, Figma's benefits show a broad approach to wellbeing: time to recharge, flexibility around where people work, opportunities to connect with colleagues, and resources explicitly dedicated to mental health.

Forge Biologics

Location: Columbus / Grove City, OH

For Forge Biologics, employee wellbeing isn't limited to its benefits brochure. The gene therapy manufacturing company has incorporated spaces for wellness and connection into its Columbus-area headquarters, which they call The Hearth.

The company’s employee benefits include an Employee Assistance Program that supports staff wellness through mental health counseling and financial planning services, a flexible work environment, generous PTO, paid parental leave, and an onsite fitness facility and wellness center, alongside medical, dental, and vision coverage. The company also supports employee community and wellness through its Employee Resource Groups such as She Forges. These and other affinity groups offer targeted peer support that reduces isolation and fosters a sense of workplace belonging

IntusCare

Location: Remote

Healthtech company IntusCare builds technology for organizations serving older adults through the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). Its employee benefits reflect the company's broader focus on care.

IntusCare provides a monthly health and wellness stipend specifically intended to support employees' physical and mental wellness. The company also offers unlimited paid time off plus 15 paid holidays and paid parental leave. Employees can work remotely anywhere in the United States and receive a work-from-home stipend, or work from IntusCare's offices in Boston or New York. The combination of a dedicated wellness stipend, flexible time off, remote work, and family benefits makes IntusCare a strong example of wellbeing support that extends beyond traditional healthcare coverage.

Buffer

Location: Remote

Social media software company Buffer is a fully remote company that offers a four-day workweek, with the fifth day serving as a flexible, meeting-free day employees can use for overflow work or personal time. Employees also receive flexible time off with no set limits and a six-week fully paid sabbatical after five years with the company, giving employees multiple opportunities to rest and recharge without treating time away as an afterthought.

Buffer also offers 16 weeks of fully paid family leave for all parents, a family support fund that provides a stipend for each child, and a $1,000 home-office setup benefit. Its culture emphasizes transparency, trust, respect, and flexibility in a distributed workplace.
