Jamey McKee didn't come to Wells Fargo to learn banking. She came to help reshape it.
After building her career in product management at a leading fintech company, Jamey had a front-row seat to how banks and technology providers worked together. The experience gave her a unique perspective and a growing list of ideas about how the customer experience could be improved if she ever had the opportunity to build products from inside a bank.
That opportunity arrived when a recruiter approached her about leading the Zelle product at Wells Fargo. Instead of supporting multiple financial institutions from the outside, she would have the chance to focus on one organization and help drive meaningful change from within.
She joined as a contractor, quickly made an impact, and was hired full-time less than a year later.
Three years on, Jamey continues to bring a product-first mindset to the organization, combining her fintech experience with a passion for creating better digital experiences for customers. What began as an opportunity to apply ideas she'd developed from the outside has become a chance to help shape the future of payments at one of the nation's largest banks.
Jamey joined Wells Fargo during a period of transition. With newfound autonomy, she embraced the opportunity from day one, building relationships across the teams and establishing herself as a trusted voice.
Today, she works at the intersection of product, customer experience, and risk management. As a Product Manager, she helps influence how one of the nation's largest payment networks evolves. Because of Wells Fargo's position within the network, Jamey and her team have a seat at the table, helping shape decisions that impact millions of customers and how they move money.
What drives her most is protecting those customers. She partners with teams across the bank to reduce fraud and scams and works with external partners to improve the network and strengthen customer safeguards.
"Every day is something new," she said. "I get to be a change agent."
That same sense of autonomy extends beyond Jamey's work and into her life. As a parent, she appreciates the flexibility to balance a demanding career with her family's needs, adjusting her schedule when necessary and working from home when it helps her be present for both.
That flexibility became especially meaningful last December, when several major life events happened at once. Her grandfather became seriously ill and required care, her son was involved in a car accident that totaled his vehicle, and her husband began a new role.
"I was overwhelmed, and needed help and they understood," she said. "My manager worked to find a solution so I could take care of my family and still be successful at work."
The experience deepened her appreciation for Wells Fargo's culture of trust and support. It's one of the reasons she invests so much in creating that same sense of connection for others. As a co-chair for employee engagement, she helps organize opportunities for employees to build relationships beyond their day-to-day work, including a recent ice cream social that brought teams together.
"Building relationships is critical to driving results," she said. “That’s what I love to do!”
While it's the product work that energizes her, it's the trust and flexibility that keep her here.
“There's a high degree of trust here," she said. "I'm given the autonomy to lead and innovate, along with a clear understanding of our goals and priorities. It creates a strong sense of ownership while keeping everyone aligned.”
