Columbus-based Health in Motion Acquired by Silicon Valley-based Platform

Health in Motion, a Columbus-based healthcare startup supporting pharmacists with digitally connected data sources, has been acquired by Silicon Valley-based Custom Health.

Health in Motion’s Parawell software organizes patient health information in a secure and central location. Custom Health, a telemedicine and medication management platform based in Mountain View, California, connects patients with their circle of care to assist them in taking medication as prescribed with easy-to-use technology. Their integrated healthcare delivery model includes personalized medication management, always-on clinical oversight, remote patient monitoring, and home-based care.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"We are investing in teams, innovations, and regions that embrace our approach and share the vision of a digital health future to solve health care's most urgent problems of achieving the Quadruple Aim," said Custom Health CEO Rahul Chopra. "As a Technology First state, Ohio has shown its commitment to accelerating innovative technology, and it's an area we are keen to build in."

Founded in 2017, Health in Motion empowers pharmacists, payers, and patients with the right information at the right time. From lab reports and medication to health records and telemetry data from monitoring devices, all health data can be managed and tracked through Parawell.

"We're joining a digital health movement with Custom Health to realize the value pharmacists bring in care management and improved health outcomes," said Health in Motion CEO Ray Shealy. "Together we're improving the lives of patients, offering personalized in-home services that are clinically managed by a connected, informed team of health experts. By adding our Parawell technology to Custom Health's growing product and service offerings, our pharmacists now have an enhanced and informed perspective on every patient, which creates a baseline for improving patient care, patient experience, and outcomes."

Health in Motion’s eight employees have joined Custom Health to form a Columbus office. Shealy has taken the position of Custom Health’s senior vice president of strategic accounts and product sales.

Health in Motion executives joining Custom Health include:

  • Brian Slusser, Stakeholder Relations

  • Ray Shealy, Platform Strategy

  • Cathy Kuhn, Clinical Programs
