It’s no surprise that the new year didn’t bring an instant stop to layoffs.
According to Layoffs.fyi there’s already been 170+ tech companies that have laid off over 56,000 employees. Also according to layoffs.fyi, only about 800 of those 56,000+ laid off were at Midwest-based companies.
That’s only 1.43%.
The rate of open tech jobs continues to rise. According to CompTIA, companies added about 130,000 tech workers to the market in December. This drove down the unemployment rate for tech occupations to 1.8%, compared to the overall national rate of 3.5%.
It’s impossible to predict exactly how layoffs will continue to play out over 2023. But the good news is that there are still many awesome companies out there that are actively hiring.
