One of Detroit’s most celebrated coworking spaces is heading west, and bringing new life to an iconic Grand Rapids landmark.
Bamboo, a thriving coworking and entrepreneurial community, is expanding to its fourth location, making a new home in the Urban Institute of Contemporary Arts building in downtown Grand Rapids. With plans to transform the nearly 40,000 square foot building into a modern coworking space supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses, the new location will transform the space into a hub for innovation, collaboration, and creativity.
Bamboo, founded in downtown Detroit, is known for fueling startups, remote teams, and small businesses with flexible workspace and vibrant community support. With Grand Rapids’ tech and entrepreneurial scene on the rise, Bamboo’s arrival couldn’t be better timed.
“We’ve seen how powerful it is to build intentional spaces where founders, freelancers, and creatives can thrive,” said Bamboo co-founder Amanda Lewan. “Now we’re excited to bring that same energy to Grand Rapids.”
The new space is expected to open in early 2026. It will offer open coworking, private offices, and event space over four floors, including a movie theater and a top-floor venue for special events and curated programming. Once open, the space is expected to support more than 500 individuals and 300 businesses, making it one of the largest coworking communities in the region.
Bamboo’s community-first ethos and track record in Detroit — featured in our list of best coworking spaces for hybrid teams — make this expansion a win for the entire state.
For West Michigan professionals looking for connection, flexibility, and a little extra spark, Bamboo Grand Rapids may be your next great work home.
