Abre is seeking an entry‑level Data Engineer to join our growing team. As a Data Engineer I at Abre, you’ll design and help build systems that move and shape school data. Because data is at the heart of everything we do, you’ll play a critical role on our product team—learning to own the stability, timeliness, and quality monitoring of the pipelines you touch. You’ll always be looking for ways to make data easier to use and our pipelines more efficient, under the guidance of senior engineers and product stakeholders.

Our Mission

Open learning communities by connecting what matters. Through consolidated solutions and meaningful connections, we ignite the aha moments that open the future for the whole child and the community.

Who We Are

Abre grew from a need. As classrooms filled with Chromebooks and students had more access to edtech, our founders noticed the software solutions used in their classrooms were messy. They faced countless logins, siloed data, and increasing confusion among different users. What was missing was simplicity and unification. So they created it.

Abre is quite literally made by educators. Our founders have years of experience in teaching and administrative leadership in K-12 education. We believe education is critical for the health of our society and have a genuine passion for helping educators.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the vision for Abre’s data integrations product, learning under senior engineers
  • Assist in building data pipelines to safely and securely move data from customers into application databases and data warehouses
  • Collaborate with end users of your data pipelines to understand their needs and deliver iterative improvements
  • Support monitoring of data pipeline performance, reliability, and infrastructure costs
  • Document your work clearly and share learnings in engineering guild meetings
  • Embrace feedback and demonstrate a commitment to growing your skills in data engineering and best practices

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0–2 years of relevant experience (e.g., internships, roles in analytics, or software development)
  • Deep familiarity with Python and SQL, demonstrated through coursework, projects, or professional use
  • Exposure to ETL concepts and basic orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster)
  • Understanding of relational databases, data modeling fundamentals, and data warehousing concepts
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and eagerness to learn new technologies
  • Excellent written communication, especially around technical documentation
  • A collaborative mindset and empathy for customers and teammates

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior EdTech experience or passion for education
  • Prior experience with GCP
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
