About Abridge

Abridge was founded in 2018 with the mission of powering deeper understanding in healthcare. Our AI-powered platform was purpose-built for medical conversations, improving clinical documentation efficiencies while enabling clinicians to focus on what matters most—their patients.

Our enterprise-grade technology transforms patient-clinician conversations into structured clinical notes in real-time, with deep EMR integrations. Powered by Linked Evidence and our purpose-built, auditable AI, we are the only company that maps AI-generated summaries to ground truth, helping providers quickly trust and verify the output. As pioneers in generative AI for healthcare, we are setting the industry standards for the responsible deployment of AI across health systems.

We are a growing team of practicing MDs, AI scientists, PhDs, creatives, technologists, and engineers working together to empower people and make care make more sense. We have offices located in the Mission District in San Francisco, the SoHo neighborhood of New York, and East Liberty in Pittsburgh.

The Role

As our Design Imagineer, you’ll redefine how design and engineering come together in directly shaping how Abridge shows up in the hands of clinicians every day in the moments that matter most. You will help transform healthcare conversations into structured, usable understanding — reducing the administrative burden on clinicians and giving them back time to focus on patients.

This role spans helping build and evolving our design system from the ground up, creating AI-enabled tooling that helps designers prototype, enabling designers to work all the way to code regardless of technical skill, and more. Defining a new creative stack where designers don’t just hand off ideas — they bring them to life.

This is for someone who wants to invent new ways of working, not just improve existing ones — and who cares deeply about craft, systems, and empowering others to build.

What You’ll Do

As our Design Imagineer, you’ll operate at the intersection of design systems and AI-enabled tooling — shaping both our product experiences and the way they’re created.

  • Build the Foundation: Design and develop Abridge’s design system from the ground up — a robust, scalable, and expressive system that unifies design and code ensuring speed without sacrificing quality, and consistency without limiting creativity.

  • AI-Native Design Tooling: Explore and build AI-powered tools that accelerate prototyping, iteration, and exploration. Rethink how LLMs and generative systems can support — or even redefine — the design process.

  • Turn Designers into Builders: Create workflows, tools, and abstractions that allow designers to move seamlessly from concept to production. Reduce friction between design and engineering, and empower designers to ship real product experiences regardless of technical background.

  • Elevate Craft Across the Stack: Set a high bar for quality across both design and implementation. Sweat the details in interaction, motion, performance, and accessibility — ensuring everything we ship feels thoughtful and cohesive.

  • Collaborate Without Boundaries: Work deeply with designers, engineers, and product leaders to shape direction and execution. Bring clarity to ambiguity, and help teams move from idea to reality with speed and precision.

What You’ll Bring

  • 5–10+ years of experience spanning design engineering, design systems, creative technologist work, front end engineering or similar hybrid roles.

  • Experience building or contributing to design systems that scale across teams and products.

  • Fluency in modern web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript) and experience with frameworks like React.

  • A strong product and design sensibility — you care deeply about interaction, visual polish, and user experience.

  • Experience prototyping ideas quickly, whether in code, design tools, or both.

  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for AI/LLM-powered tools and workflows.

  • A builder mindset — you don’t wait for perfect specs, and you’re comfortable working through ambiguity.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work fluidly across disciplines.

Bonus Points If…

  • Built internal tools or platforms that empower designers or engineers.

  • Experience with AI/ML products or generative interfaces.

  • Background in motion or brand design systems

We value people who are eager to learn new things and recognize that great team members might not perfectly match a job description. If you’re interested in the role but aren’t sure whether or not you’re a good fit, we’d still like to hear from you.

Must be willing to work from our SF or NYC office at least 3x per week

This position requires a commitment to a hybrid work model, with the expectation of coming into the office a minimum of (3) three times per week. Relocation assistance is available for candidates willing to move to San Francisco or New York.
