About the role
As an Associate HR Generalist based in central Berlin, you will provide first-line HR support to our employees, organise company social events, and manage our office.
This is a broad, hands-on position that covers the full scope of German HR operations. Primary responsibilities include end-to-end management of all HR processes and employee relations activities, ensuring full compliance with German labour law.
Working alongside colleagues in Berlin, Aix-en-Provence, Amsterdam, London, Toronto, and across the US, your mission is to create an exceptional employee experience while ensuring our German operations are compliant, efficient, and aligned with our global mission.
We offer a hybrid working arrangement with up to two days per week working from home.
What you’ll do
Employee lifecycle: Own end-to-end employee lifecycle management for Germany, including employee support, contract changes, onboarding, and offboarding.
Compliance: Ensure German People Operations remains compliant with local labour laws and German employment law, updating local policies as needed.
Employee relations: Advise managers on disciplinary procedures, performance management, grievance handling, and conflict resolution, ensuring compliance with German labour law.
Payroll: Support monthly payroll and benefits administration.
Process optimisation: Document and improve HR workflows using automation and AI to simplify how we work.
People experience: Organise engaging social events that help people connect and build culture.
Office operations: keep our Berlin office running smoothly through proactive facilities management.
Who you are
Experience: 2+ years in an HR Generalist or People Ops role with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, with demonstrable experience handling employee relations and German employment law matters.
Linguistic proficiency: Fluent in German and English (written and verbal).
Subject matter expert: Strong foundational knowledge of German employment law.
Operational excellence: Highly organised, service-oriented, and proactive; able to prioritise and complete tasks with minimal supervision
Interpersonal impact: Strong empathy and high emotional intelligence, ability to build strong relationships with managers and employees
Values-driven: You act with integrity and have high emotional intelligence to relate with people and build trusted relationships across all levels.
