The Bioinformatics Specialist collaborates closely with clinicians and data scientists to develop and maintain robust data ingestion pipelines from clinical systems, including Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, into our AI tools and workflows. Conducts statistical analysis on the data and work with Data scientist to apply AI models to the data.

Duties and Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Collaborate with Clinicians: Work directly with clinicians to understand data flows and clinical requirements, ensuring seamless integration of clinical data into AI workflows.
  • Data Ingestion Pipelines: Design, develop, and maintain data ingestion pipelines to efficiently transfer data from clinical systems (EMR, EHR) into AI tools.
  • Data Integration: Ensure accurate and efficient integration of diverse data sources, maintaining data integrity and consistency.
  • AI Workflow Development: Work with AI and machine learning teams to incorporate clinical data into predictive models and decision-support tools.
  • Statistical analysis of the clinical data for research publications.
  • Machine learning modelling of the data.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Implement and oversee data quality checks, validation processes, and troubleshooting to ensure the reliability of ingested data.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of data processes and provide regular reports on data integration and pipeline performance.
  • Industry Knowledge: Keep up-to-date with the latest developments in bioinformatics, clinical data management, and healthcare technologies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biomedical, Computer Science, Data Science or a related field required
  • 3-5 years of experience in bioinformatics, biomedical or a similar role, with a focus on clinical data management required
  • Experience working with clinical data required
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or similar required
  • Experience with data integration tools and frameworks required
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts and tools required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a healthcare setting or with EMR/EHR systems preferred
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and data privacy standards (e.g., HIPAA) preferred
  • Experience with databases, such as SQL preferred
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and big data technologies preferred
  • Experience with healthcare data standards such as DICOM & FHIR preferred
  • Experience with Google healthcare API is a preferred
  • Experience with Snowflake and BigQuery is a preferred
  • Experience with ingesting patient data from documents into EMR systems (for example Athena) is a preferred

Schedule Details:

  • Employment Status: Full time (1.0 FTE)

  • Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40

  • Hours of work: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Days worked: Monday–Friday
