Job Purpose

The Network Engineer II provides advanced operations engineering expertise within a large, complex enterprise LAN/WAN environment, primarily leveraging Cisco networking technologies. This role partners closely with Network Operations teams, including Core Engineering, Access Engineering, Systems Engineering, Data NOC, Field Technicians, Sales, Project Management, and Carrier Partners.

Key responsibilities include the planning, design, configuration, and implementation of network products and services, as well as Tier 2 support and repair functions. The position also supports Managed Wi-Fi deployments and provides escalation support for the 24×7 production network environment.

This role will serve as a technical lead on highly complex projects, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability within established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and implement complex network deployments.
  • Configure customer orders and manage IP configurations for dedicated internet services.
  • Review, script, and execute network change management processes.
  • Investigate and resolve network incidents within SLA parameters.
  • Deliver Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to internal teams and customers.
  • Lead and support Incident, Problem, and Change Management processes.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate network diagrams using Microsoft Visio.
  • Monitor network performance, manage capacity planning, and report capacity needs.
  • Provide Tier 2 escalation support for Managed Wi-Fi deployments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on new product launches and major projects.
  • Configure and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, and related network hardware/software.
  • Troubleshoot issues using tools such as traceroute, tcpdump, and packet analyzers.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Required: CCNA Enterprise Route/Switch
  • Preferred: CCNP, Nokia NRS, Cisco SDWAN Specialization, Palo Alto Certification, ACMP Aruba Certified Mobility Professional, ACCP Aruba Certified Clearpass Professional

Experience

  • 5–7 years of hands-on network engineering experience in large enterprise environments.
  • Strong expertise with EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP routing protocols.
  • Proven experience with VLAN, MPLS, SONET, Ethernet, and DSL technologies.
  • Familiarity with SDWAN, F5 LTM/GTM, Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, Nexus 7K/5K/2K, ASR/ISR routers, and Catalyst switches.
  • Experience implementing/managing WAN circuits (T1, Ethernet, MPLS).
  • Knowledge of firewall technologies, NAT/PAT, VPN, and security protocols.
  • Proficiency in network performance monitoring and analysis.

Skills & Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, multicast, QoS, and bandwidth management.
  • Skilled in creating and maintaining network diagrams (Visio).
  • Familiarity with ITIL-based ticketing systems (ServiceNOW preferred).
  • Strong communication, time management, and self-management skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Work Environment

  • 24×7 support with rotational shifts, including occasional late hours and weekends.
  • May involve working independently in enclosed environments.
  • Hybrid/remote flexibility with preference for Ohio-based candidates.
