Role Summary:

Censys is looking for a Data Scientist or Security Research Engineer with domain expertise in Internet Security to join our engineering organization to lead our efforts in providing deep and contextual insights into our world class Internet Map datasets. Censys conducts the most thorough and comprehensive scans of the public Internet, allowing our customers to see the ground-truth of what services and devices are connected to the Internet.

This role will help us to derive deeper insights from our data and surface those directly to our customers through additional embedded context. Through the use of data analysis and machine learning techniques, Censys seeks to increase the fidelity of our scanning coverage, software and hardware identification, threat identification, and to attribute ownership of Internet facing assets to global businesses and entities.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and implement data models to improve our Internet Map datasets to further drive competitive advantage.
  • Inspect, mine, transform, and analyze large datasets to identify patterns and trends to further support engineering efforts such as predictive modeling of scan targets, software and hardware identification, vulnerability detection, threat actor identification, and more.
  • Assist in data classification and dataset use through techniques such as entity and identity resolution, clustering, data gap analysis, and others.
  • Work closely with both Security Researchers, Data engineering, and MLOps teams to help take your work to production.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or other technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Experience and domain knowledge in Internet protocols, technologies, and systems, cyber security, or security research.
  • 3+ years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis.
  • Experience in Machine Learning and Deep Learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow or PyTorch).
  • Experience using Google BigQuery and its ecosystem.
  • Optional experience with GCP VertexAI.
  • Optional experience with training LLMs.
  • Ability to concisely communicate complex subject matter to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently as a researcher while being part of a larger cross-functional team.

Our target salary range for this role is between $134,000 USD and $180,000 USD + bonus eligibility and equity.
