Summary of the position:
The Value Steam Manager, Director to Senior Manager, provides leadership and supervision to manufacturing, manufacturing and quality engineering, planning/ production control, maintenance, and matrix leadership role for additional operations' team members working for the same value stream to create and sustain a world class operations team.
This position is on site at the Hitachi Global Air Power facility in Michigan City, Indiana, and reports to the Vice President, Operations.
- Direct and coordinate the execution of manufacturing operations and schedules based on sales requirements and value stream capacity
- Introduce and sustain KPls, performance boards and visual management to improve performance and communications - SQDIP-E
- Assess talent, recruit and hire new team members that both enhance the team overall match the needs of the HGAP business
- Will and must develop her/ his skills and adapt leadership style to collaborate, work and drive change in a cross-functional, matrix structure
- Support, lead and participate with Quality, R&D and Engineering on new product introductions
- Receive and maintain QS 9000 and ISO 14001 certifications and other industry certifications, as required
- Host frequent safety training programs and maintain employee safety and OSHA compliance
- Develop training plan for new employees in conjunction with Training Specialist and HR Business Partners
- Assistant Value Steam Leaders and Team Leaders for Kaizen events
- Participate in daily Gemba walks to address issues, escalate recurring issues and provide solutions
- Establish best practices and rules for improving all phases of operations and maintenance of the production lines resulting in improve OEE
The successful candidate will have a detailed understanding, knowledge and experience with manufacturing operations, team member development and strong comprehension of and flexibility to lead a value-steam business with a cross-functional, matrix mindset.
Duties and responsibilities:
The Value Stream Manager is responsible for meeting business commitments for Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity and Engagement (SQDIP-E). The VS Manager possesses leadership ability and highly effective communication skills. The position is expected to spend 3-4 hours per day on the production floor auditing, coaching, and facilitating continuous improvement.
- Develops each team member to become effective in his/her job through training, counseling, and checking results.
- Monitors and evaluates performance of employees and provides feedback as required.
- Works with HR Business Partners, Training Specialist and others to identify and implement direct reports, dotted- line reports and team members developmental needs
- Makes and executes decisions regarding work assignments that support KPls and cross-training.
- Responsible for developing high-performing, flexible team(s).
- Coaches the team(s) to achieve excellence.
- Fosters a culture of teamwork.
- Takes responsibility for 6S, KAI ZEN, and other lean activities within organization.
- Drives change and innovation.
- Builds continuous improvement culture within team{s).
- Participates in establishing departmental goals relative to labor utilization and department efficiency.
- Measures factory performance to the standard.
- Monitors conformance to process and quality standards and ensures compliance.
- Develops audit plans that support. •
- Tracks all applicable metrics, taking actions as necessary to meet KPI targets.
- Publishes performance results to key stake holders as required.
- Enforces all Company policies, rules, and regulations.
- Leads cultural change and develops world class manufacturing concepts.

Qualifications:
Education:
- BS Degree in Engineering, Business Administration or Operations Management
- Advanced degree preferred
Professional experience:
- 15 years of functional manufacturing operations experience with special emphasis on continuous improvement and organizational transformation
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization (internal/external) and across global nationalities and cultures
- High level of expertise in the use of analytical tools such as Excel and ERP systems.
- Capable and comfortable driving improvements and results within a matrix structure
- Strong presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor

Direct reports:
- Include both direct reports, Value Stream Leaders, and various "dotted-line", cross-functional reports such as Manufacturing and Quality engineers and technicians, Production Control/ Planning team members, Maintenance and additional cross-functional roles, as required.
