Job Description:

Hitachi Energy has an exciting opportunity for a Senior MMS Engineer, you will combine excellent business analysis and client-facing skills with extensive experience in the Irish wholesale electricity market (most likely acquired by working for Eirgrid, SEMO or one of the leading SEM market participants or related consultant).

You will be able to demonstrate a good level of understanding of the current SEM market in terms of market structure, Trading & Settlement code, market operations and typical business drivers and business processes of the market participants. You will need to have a detailed understanding of the proposed I-SEM market and be able to explain the key differences between the I-SEM model and the current SEM market. You will also have a good understanding of IT and will appreciate how IT solution procurement decisions are made by Irish energy companies.

Location, Ireland (Remote) with travel to Dublin as required

How you'll make an impact:

  • Provide consultation, diagnosis, escalation, status-reporting and resolution implementation to reported problems.
  • Investigate issues and defects at a detailed level to determine appropriate method of resolution; identify workarounds; provide information to developers to easily replicate issues and fix software defects.
  • On-call support for critical issues affecting customer production systems.
  • Respond to client inquiries concerning systems usage and operations.
  • Provide technical support and advice for implementation of software fixes/upgrades. Coordinate installations of upgrades and revisions to software with customers.
  • Identify and document the need for tools to assist in supporting the technical support team and the customer.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement initiatives to improve customer service efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Experience in leading and managing customer meetings, including meetings at customer site.

Your Background:

  • At least 10-15 years’ experience in business analysis/consulting/advisory or software development roles
  • Typical qualifications include a technical degree (engineering, computer science) and preferably work experience in a Technical Customer Support role,
  • Strong demonstrable analytical and problem solving abilities with a proven ability or the ability to learn software troubleshooting and diagnosis skills.
  • Strong capability in Electric Power Systems analysis and experience with power system analysis including power flow, contingency analysis, unit commitment, economic dispatch and numerical methods is preferred.
  • Very good programming skills in at least one high level programming language such a C, C++, Java, Fortran.
  • Formal classroom education in Data Structures and Databases is desirable as is work experience on a Unix or Linux OS environment.
