At Hitachi Energy, safety is not just a priority — it is a core value that shapes how we design, build, and operate our facilities. As the HSSE Manager for a new manufacturing site, you will play a pivotal role in setting the foundation for safe, reliable, and high‑performing operations from day one. This is a rare opportunity to influence how systems, behaviors, and leadership practices come together in a complex greenfield environment.
You will work at the heart of a major facility build and start‑up, partnering with project teams, construction leaders, contractors, and site leadership to embed learning, risk awareness, and operational resilience into every phase of the journey. Your impact will extend well beyond compliance — you will help shape a culture where people feel empowered to speak up, learn, and improve together while delivering world‑class results.
Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures and guidelines.
This role offers visibility, autonomy, and the ability to build something lasting — not just a site, but a system that enables people to go home safe every day while supporting Hitachi Energy’s mission to build a more sustainable energy future.
How you’ll make an impact
You will lead and enable HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) efforts to understand, manage, and reduce risk during the design, construction, installation, commissioning, and start‑up of a new manufacturing facility. This role focuses on building strong systems, leadership behaviors, and organizational capability that support safe and reliable operations from day one and beyond.
Lead and develop a high‑performing HSSE team through construction, commissioning, and transition to operations
Establish HSSE systems aligned with Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles
Partner with leaders as a trusted coach to strengthen learning, accountability, and risk management
Influence early design, hazard analysis, and constructability decisions to reduce risk at the source
Integrate HSSE expectations into contractor selection, onboarding, and execution
Support high‑risk and non‑routine work planning, including pre‑startup safety reviews
Lead non‑punitive incident and learning reviews focused on system improvement
Use insights, trends, and audits to drive continuous improvement and organizational resilience
Your background
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental, Chemistry, or Occupational Health & Safety disciplines
Minimum of 8 years of progressive HSSE experience in industrial or manufacturing environments
At least 2 years of people leadership or managerial experience
Experience supporting construction, capital projects, commissioning, or facility start‑ups
Strong coaching, influencing, and communication skills across diverse stakeholder groups
Ability to operate effectively in dynamic, fast‑changing project environments
