Latitude AI (lat.ai) is an automated driving technology company developing a hands-free, eyes-off driver assist system for next-generation Ford vehicles at scale. We’re driven by the opportunity to reimagine what it’s like to drive and make travel safer, less stressful, and more enjoyable for everyone.

When you join the Latitude team, you’ll work alongside leading experts across machine learning and robotics, cloud platforms, mapping, sensors and compute systems, test operations, systems and safety engineering – all dedicated to making a real, positive impact on the driving experience for millions of people.

As a Ford Motor Company subsidiary, we operate independently to develop automated driving technology at the speed of a technology startup. Latitude is headquartered in Pittsburgh with engineering centers in Dearborn, Mich., and Palo Alto, Calif.

Meet the team:

The Autonomy Analytics team is responsible for evaluating the performance of our autonomous software using data, statistics, and machine learning. Combining data from real-world testing with our extensive simulations, our team builds the metrics and analytics that ensure our product is safe, reliable, and delights our customers.

This internship will be 12 weeks in length.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop novel ways to measure the performance of our self-driving cars
  • Create dashboards that allow our teammates to easily understand our product’s performance and how it changes over time
  • Work closely with autonomy engineers, test engineers, and product managers to understand gaps in our evaluation approach and fill them
  • Directly identify opportunities to improve our product using data and statistics
  • Develop techniques to make robust conclusions when comparing different ML models or software systems
  • Develop software infrastructure to automate our evaluation system

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related field. Must be enrolled in a full time degree program at the time of the internship and for the semester following the internship (Fall 2024)
  • Proficiency in Python, including data science toolkits like Pandas, Polars, and Seaborn
  • Proficiency with SQL
  • Strong theoretical foundation in statistical data analysis
  • An eagerness to apply your knowledge to yet-unsolved problems
  • Note: At this time, Latitude AI is only able to support remote internships in the following states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, IL, MA, MD, MI, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SC, TX, VA, WA, WI and Washington DC

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with machine learning algorithms, including classical and neural models
  • Experience working with robotics
  • Experience with modern C++
  • Familiarity with hypothesis testing (A/B tests) and variance reduction
