Mission
Bring Laurel’s data to life through rich, interactive visualizations and seamless UX design—making complex insights simple, engaging, and valuable for our customers.
Role Summary
As a Staff Full Stack UX Designer, you will lead design efforts for our most ambitious new product: Laurel’s Data Product. You will translate data visualizations and analysis, user research, and product strategy into clear, compelling visual stories. You’ll own the end-to-end design process, from discovery to delivery, and collaborate with PMs, data scientists, and engineers to ship beautiful, production-grade data interfaces.
We’re especially interested in candidates who thrive in early-stage environments and love designing for complex systems—and who bring a keen eye for data storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
-
Data Visualization & Design
Design interactive dashboards, charts, and exploratory tools that help users understand complex data insights.
Translate data into compelling visual narratives that enable business decision-making.
Design thoughtful, visually compelling data experiences within Business Intelligence (BI) tools, with an eye toward scalability and future custom front-end implementations. Develop flexible design patterns that work seamlessly across both embedded BI environments and bespoke product interfaces.
-
User-Centered Design Process
Conduct user research, testing, and interviews across all of Laurel’s user personas: timekeepers, billing/admin staff, and Firm Leaders.
Create user journeys, personas, wireframes, and prototypes across fidelity levels.
Validate designs through usability tests and iterate based on feedback.
-
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Scientists, Customer Experience, and Sales teams to support analytics and insights
Present design concepts to both internal and external stakeholders
-
Design Systems & Implementation
Design clear, effective data visualizations using BI tools in the near term—working within the tool's capabilities while elevating the user experience.
Extend Laurel’s design system with reusable patterns that support both BI-embedded workflows and future custom-built interfaces.
When appropriate, collaborate with engineers to implement designs using front-end technologies (e.g., React, D3).
-
Build lightweight prototypes (e.g., in Figma) to validate concepts and guide development.

Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant fields
-
Experience: 6+ years of professional Design experience. Ideal candidates will be comfortable working with Data Analytics products.
6+ years of experience designing digital products, with a strong focus on dashboards, data-heavy interfaces, or analytics tools.
Hands-on experience designing directly within BI tools (e.g., Thoughtspot, PowerBI, Omni) or other low-code data platforms
Ability to navigate ambiguous problems and design across both short-term constraints and long-term product vision.
Proven track record of taking product concepts from early exploration to high-fidelity interactive prototypes
Understanding of data design principles (e.g., clarity, integrity, avoiding misleading visuals).
Demonstrated ability to code using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to build interactive prototypes or front-end components quickly and independently
Familiarity with front-end development workflows (e.g., collaborating on React components or preparing dev-ready specs).
-
Bonus:
Experience with knowledge worker productivity tools
Ability to write or modify front-end code (e.g., editing or assembling UI components in React, JavaScript)
Experience designing for AI-powered tools or automated workflows.
Familiarity with modern data visualization libraries (e.g., D3.js)
Familiarity with BI tools (e.g., Thoughtspot, PowerBI, Tableau).
