Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for managing and maintaining the client's Linux-based systems and services that support academic, administrative, and research functions. This role requires a strong technical foundation, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to maintaining secure, stable, and scalable systems in a higher education environment.

**Open to 20-40 hours a week

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer, monitor, and support Linux servers (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.) across campus.
• Install, configure, and maintain software packages and services such as Apache/Nginx, MySQL/PostgreSQL, LDAP, Samba, DNS, DHCP, and SSH.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and file systems, ensuring data security and integrity.
• Ensure system availability, performance tuning, backup, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts (Bash, Python, Ansible, etc.) for system tasks and deployments.
• Apply security updates, patches, and configuration changes in compliance with IT policies.
• Work collaboratively with faculty, researchers, and administrative departments to support Linux-based research computing and applications.
• Participate in the planning and implementation of new technologies and services.
• Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
• Provide second- and third-level support for Linux-based systems and services.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Linux Administrator or in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of Linux server environments and open-source technologies.
• Experience with shell scripting and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
• Familiarity with virtualization and containerization technologies (VMware, KVM, Docker).
• Understanding of network services and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SMTP).
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in an academic or research institution.
• Knowledge of High Performance Computing (HPC) environments or clusters.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, OpenStack).
• Familiarity with ITIL practices and change management processes.
• Linux certifications (e.g., RHCSA, RHCE, LFCS, LPIC-1/2) are a plus.
