A remote contract opportunity is available for a Royalty Portfolio Analyst who will be involved in daily monitoring of the Royalty Transmittal application for new Contract/Title submissions to be set up in the royalty system. Assesses the submitted transmittal information for completeness. Reviews the provided information (publishing agreement(s), amendment(s), titles, and any other documents) and enters the terms in the royalty system. Initiates and interacts directly with the business unit / editorial, finance, and product teams, as well as Corporate Legal, with any contractual term or product questions / clarifications to ensure the terms are set up accurately in the royalty system.

Responsibilities:
  • Receive and act on all inquiries received from external customers (authors, royalty recipients, agents) and internal customers (portfolio management / Editorial, Finance, Corporate Legal, and Corporate Audit) related to the royalty statements, payments, and portfolio/program. Take the necessary action steps to research and resolve these inquiries work with Full Time Hire Option including maintenance in the royalty system, if applicable.
  • Prepare supporting documentation for author-initiated requests related to establishing Estates, Trusts, and Assignment of Rights related to the author’s account in accordance with policies/requirements.
  • Assist with reviewing monthly unmatched sales reports for titles in the assigned portfolios/programs and take necessary steps to research and resolve the items.
  • Work on any projects and/or initiatives assigned by the manager or director.
  • Assist with servicing 3rd Party Audit requests being conducted on behalf of an author including compiling, preparing and providing requested documentation.
  • Liaise with Accounts Payable related to establishing and maintaining royalty recipient accounts and addressing payment issues.

COMPLEXITY/DIMENSIONS (Size and scope, budget responsibility, revenue, headcount, etc.)
  • Total IDs set up in royalty system annually is approximately 25,000 across all businesses.
  • Total Inbound inquiries received by Royalty Operations annually is approximately 5,000 and are cyclical due to larger volume statement cycles during the year (Feb/Mar; Aug/Sep).
  • Total Royalty payments are $150 million annually.
  • Position requires the person to be able to read and understand publishing agreements, and amendments, and properly interpret and setup the terms in the royalty system for the accurate computation of author royalties.
  • Position requires the ability to handle time sensitive items, meet deadlines, and effectively multitask.
  • Position requires an aptitude to learn and understand the Royalty System and its workings to review and analyze author / royalty recipient account activity.
  • Position requires the person to be detail oriented, organized, and to work with large volumes of data.
  • Incumbent must be able to identify areas of improvement in the position and recommend solutions to improve process/procedures across the full end to end process.
  • Position requires some travel.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills are required as the position has direct contact with authors and will project and affect the impression an author will have of the client.
  • Position is also required to work in a collaborative environment with portfolio management, finance, and legal teams in addressing the alignment of product/sales channels with the publishing agreement and the technical considerations for set up in the royalty system.
  • Strong analytical skills are required as the incumbent will have to extract and analyze large volumes of detailed transactional activity for author accounts when investigating inquiries and/or assisting with audits.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in Business Law and legal intent regarding such topics as copyrights, tax implications, estate settlements, assignment of ownership is a plus.
  • Strong experience in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Prior work experience in royalties, publishing, editorial, legal, or accounting fields a plus.

  • Ability to assess inquiries, prioritize, and problem solve.
  • Ability to perform financial calculations based on royalty defined formulas when resolving issues and inquiries.
  • Individual must be detail oriented for both the data entry aspect of the Royalty System term set up and the detailed author / royalty recipient account activity analysis.

Must Have for this role:
2 major functions and Ad hoc.
  • Author Relations function- Handling outside inquiries from the authors; internal inquiries from Business and Legal Dept. related to any type of Royalty query- research and resolve inquiries
  • Data Entry - Read Legal Publishing agreements and interpret, then input data terms from contracts into Royalty system. Will be working with large volumes of data.
  • Comfortable reading contractual language
  • Also comfortable with other systems - like Oracle or SAP
