Job Description

Optimus Technologies is seeking a strategic, technically skilled, and people-focused Director of Service Operations to lead both our internal Field Services team and our growing network of external vendors and service partners. This critical leadership role is equally focused on optimizing hands-on field execution and building the scalable external infrastructure necessary to support installation, diagnostics, maintenance, and support of our Vector and SMARTFuel Systems.

In addition to overseeing daily operations and leading our Field Service Diesel Technicians, the Director will proactively develop and strengthen relationships with third-party installers, service providers, and fleet maintenance partners to ensure nationwide support readiness and service excellence. The Director will also serve as a primary collaborator with internal stakeholders—Engineering, Product Development, Operations, and Customer Success—to translate field insights into actionable product and process improvements.

This is a full-time position to be based in Pittsburgh, PA. Responsibilities

  • Oversee planning, coordination, and execution of Vector and SMARTFuel system installations, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership for internal Field Service Technicians, Service Writers, and Field Engineers, ensuring excellence in technical performance, safety, professionalism, and customer interaction.
  • Develop and oversee a high-performing external network of vetted vendors and service partners, ensuring properonboarding, certification, service delivery quality, and alignment with Optimus standards.
  • Establish new regional service centers and partner installation sites to expand Optimus’ service footprint and meet growing customer demand.
  • Bring partnership development expertise to identify and secure partnerships with third-party service providers, installers, and fleet maintenance organizations, ensuring alignment with Optimus’ growth and customer support strategies.
  • Establish scalable systems, service workflows, and data reporting structures to drive clarity, accountability, and consistency across internal teams and external partners.
  • Implement, track, and analyze service performance metrics (KPIs), issue trends, repair order data, and field service efficiency to continuously improve operations.
  • Synthesize field and service data into actionable product insights; partner with Engineering to influence product enhancements and design improvements based on real-world service outcomes.
  • Ensure all service and maintenance activities meet contractual obligations, including warranty adherence, regulatory compliance (e.g., DOT, OSHA), and recall campaign execution.
  • Forecast labor, resource, travel, and expense needs to support field operations; manage scheduling, travel protocol compliance, and oversee capital and tool allocation to ensure operational readiness and budget alignment.   • Champion a customer-centric culture across all service touchpoints; personally support resolution of escalated service challenges and partner with Customer Success to ensure a seamless customer experience.
  • Vet and evaluate new vendors and service partners to ensure operational alignment, regional coverage, and the ability to scale with business growth.
  • Develop and maintain centralized systems for asset management, including vehicles, tools, and parts, ensuring availability, condition tracking, and optimized deployment.
  • Continuously assess internal and external service delivery models to identify opportunities for preventative improvements, cost savings, and long-term efficiency gains.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in diesel engine or vehicle systems service and support, including at least 3 years in a senior management or director-level role—preferably in heavy-duty trucking, transportation, or clean technology sectors.
  • Proven success leading decentralized field teams, including technicians and service advisors, while managing relationships with external vendors and service partners.
  • Demonstrated experience vetting, building, and scaling third-party service networks, including contract negotiation, performance oversight, and partner development across regional markets.
  • Deep technical expertise in automotive engine systems, with strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with fleet service tools and software, including scheduling platforms, inventory systems, and remote diagnostics tools.
  • Strong competencies in project planning, workforce forecasting, logistics coordination, service standard development, and operational leadership.
  • Experience gathering and analyzing repair order data and service KPIs to drive continuous improvement and inform product and engineering decisions.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally across Engineering, Product Development, Operations, and Customer Success, and to represent service operations in executive discussions.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen with a data-driven approach to forecasting, budgeting, and operational performance.
  • Effective communicator with high emotional intelligence and a track record of mentoring, motivating, and retaining technical and field staff.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across Optimus’ U.S. and Canadian customer base, balancing hands-on field support with strategic planning.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ASE) and active participation in professional organizations such as TMC or NAFA are preferred, reflecting commitment to industry best practices and continuous improvement.
