Overview

The Senior Database Administrator designs, prescribes, analyzes, deploys, integrates, tunes, optimizes, configures, evaluates, tests, debugs, and administers scripts, programs, tools, objects, tables, queries, forms, and other assets relating to the use of one or more Oracle and/or SQL databases.

Responsibilities

The Senior Database Administrator uses their command of emerging technologies, industry best practices, and system requirements to recommend and document specific elements of database architecture including servers and their components, networking and related appliances, and third party software and programs. The Database Administrator seeks out and recognizes opportunities for process improvement, re-engineering, and automation, and employs practices intended to improve customer satisfaction and reduce costs. The Database Administrator is expected to consistently leverage their significant expertise and skillset by routinely providing guidance and mentorship to peers during informal knowledge transfer opportunities and formalized training, and acts as a point of escalation for needs within and outside of conventional business hours. This duty may be scheduled in advance or in an on-call capacity according to the needs of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the administration, backup, recovery, and migration of Oracle and SQL databases
  • Experience with Oracle Golden Gate and ODS
  • Significant experience with the design, analysis, deployment, integration, optimization, performance tuning, troubleshooting, administration, and/or consultation of the following disciplines or technologies is required:
  • Oracle Real Application Clusters, Recovery Manager, Data Guard, Golden Gate, Application Express, and other solutions
  • shell, batch, and Perl scripting
  • virtualization software including VMware and/or Hyper-V
  • cloud computing programs including Amazon EC2 and/or Microsoft Azure
  • complex client/server and web-hosted application software
  • SQL AlwaysOn and SQL Database Clusters
  • Experience with the interaction of Oracle solutions with the following disciplines or technologies is preferred:
  • storage technologies such as Storage Array Networks (SAN), Network Attached Storage (NAS), Direct Attached Storage (DAS) and RAID strategies governing data storage
  • LDAP solutions such as Active Directory, Novell eDirectory, and Apple Open Directory
  • enterprise backup systems and best practices
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other technical discipline, or experience commensurate with a four-year degree
