The Associate Journalist Intern will be a versatile storyteller, adept at working across various formats, including live video, social media, audio, video, and interactives. This role demands creativity, analytical thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. The Associate Journalist Intern will uphold editorial independence, accuracy, and a commitment to excellence.

• The internship will start on June 3rd, 2025 and will end on August 8th, 2025.
• This is a full time intern role with hourly pay. (40 hours weekly)
• Intern selected must be available and willing to come to the SJU office in person 4 times a week (Monday through Thursday) and work remotely on Fridays.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interviews: Conduct interviews with relevant stakeholders, experts, and community members.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other departments (business, product, engineering) to explore new ways of presenting narratives.
• Data-Driven Approach: Utilize analytics and data to inform editorial decisions and strategies.
• Story Assignment: Work with editors in managing the editorial calendar, ensuring timely and relevant content.
• Accuracy and Independence: Uphold the highest standards of accuracy and journalistic integrity.
• Ability to cover various topics and manage an array of sources, from politics to lifestyle.
• Pitch story ideas, formats and sources for daily, weekly and/or monthly coverage.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
• Recent graduate or student who has completed at least their junior year, with previous experience in a newsroom environment.
• Strong analytical skills and data-driven decision-making abilities.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
• Proficiency in digital media tools and content management systems.
• Passion for storytelling and innovation in digital media.
