At RV Education (EDU), we believe in the power of online learning to create opportunities and transform lives. In partnership with over 300 colleges and universities, we help individuals make smart educational decisions that meet their needs and career aspirations. Our trusted brands like BestColleges serve over 90 million unique annual visitors with educational resources and advice.

At Red Ventures, we believe in building transformative digital experiences that help people make life’s most important decisions. As a Staff Software Engineer in our EDU division, you will play a key role in designing and delivering high-impact solutions across our platform. You’ll work hands-on across the stack to solve complex problems, contribute to technical direction, and mentor other engineers — all while keeping code quality, performance, and scalability top of mind.

We’re looking for a technically sharp, execution-focused engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys getting deep into code. You’ll help shape the future of our platform through direct contribution and close partnership with cross-functional teams. RV EDU is proudly headquartered in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and is dedicated to cultivating local talent and driving economic development on the island. While many of our roles are located in Puerto Rico, some are also located at RV’s main campus south of Charlotte, NC, or are remote-based.

As a requirement for this role, the selected candidate must be based in Puerto Rico. We are seeking individuals who are currently residing on the island or are willing to relocate to Puerto Rico. This location-based requirement is essential to foster our commitment to local talent and contribute to the economic growth of Puerto Rico. This role requires a hybrid schedule and will be based out of our San Juan, Puerto Rico office with in-office Monday-Thursday and fully remote work on Fridays each week.

Please note that relocation assistance may be provided for qualified candidates who are interested in joining our team in Puerto Rico. If you are a talented professional seeking a new adventure and are open to the possibility of relocating to Puerto Rico, we encourage you to apply.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver high-quality, scalable full-stack solutions using Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS.
  • Build and maintain robust backend services using Node.js, with a strong focus on performance, maintainability, and reliability.
  • Work hands-on with cloud infrastructure (AWS) to design and deploy secure, observable, and cost-effective services.
  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code using tools like AWS CDK or Terraform.
  • Lead complex technical projects from inception to delivery, collaborating across engineering, product, and design.
  • Participate in architectural discussions and provide informed input into system design decisions.
  • Collaborate with Principal and Lead Engineers to uphold technical quality and delivery consistency across teams.
  • Identify and fix critical technical debt and lead meaningful refactors that improve system health and velocity.
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and design sessions.
  • Advocate for engineering best practices around testing, observability, documentation, and secure coding.

What We're Looking For:

  • 6+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong command of modern full-stack development.
  • Strong experience with:
  • Frontend: Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS, TypeScript
  • Backend: Node.js
  • Cloud: AWS (e.g., Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, RDS)
  • Infra: CDK and/or Terraform
  • Experience building and supporting scalable systems in production environments.
  • Familiarity with modern software delivery practices (CI/CD, IaC, monitoring, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead development efforts and mentor other engineers.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with a “get it done” mindset.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork, with a bias for clear, constructive collaboration.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity, iterating quickly, and learning on the fly.

Nice To Have:

  • Experience with headless CMS or content management platforms
  • Background in education, lead generation, or other high-scale consumer domains
  • Exposure to event-driven architectures or domain-driven design
  • Previous experience working in a Staff-level role at a modern product-led company

Why You'll Love It Here:

  • You'll contribute to products that directly support students in achieving their educational goals.
  • You'll be part of a mission-driven team committed to technical excellence and meaningful impact.
  • You'll join a vibrant local team in our San Juan office, with the opportunity to shape the future of education technology.
  • You'll experience a hybrid work model with a strong culture of flexibility, growth, and inclusion.
