Regrid - bringing the actionable unit of geography to everyone. Data Processing Analyst Remote · Full time

Full-time, 100% remote, open to U.S. candidates only

Description

About Us

Regrid is building something unique and significant: a long term, independent service dedicated to understanding land parcels on Planet Earth. You can call us a spatial data company if you’d like.

Founded in Detroit, Michigan in 2009, we spent our early years helping Detroiters use parcel data to combat challenges of widespread vacancy, blight, and foreclosure. We then became the first team to deliver 100% parcel coverage of all property and geography in the United States, and have stepped into global coverage.

We passionately believe in our mission — "We are the parcel people — bringing the actionable unit of geography to everyone" — and this shows up for us everywhere: data delivery methods that reach every type of customer from individuals to the largest enterprise; our Data With Purpose program for nonprofits and educators, and our commercial partnership with Esri, the world's leading provider of mapping software.

The Role

The Data Processing Analyst is the operational owner and quality steward of parcel data products after automated pipelines have executed. This role sits outside of core platform and pipeline engineering, focusing instead on ensuring data outputs are accurate, current, interpretable, and aligned with real-world conditions before delivery to customers.

Automated systems ingest and transform parcel data on a recurring basis. The Data Processing Analyst ensures those outputs meet quality standards, reflect expected change patterns, and are analytically fit for use. Each analyst owns a portfolio of counties and serves as the accountable point of contact for data health, freshness, and reliability across those regions.

This role blends data operations, geospatial analysis, and light analytics engineering. The work is configuration- and analysis-driven, leveraging YAML-based configuration, SQL, spatial analysis, and emerging analytics tooling (e.g., dbt). It does not involve hands-on development of core ingestion pipelines, but requires strong technical fluency and operational judgment.

Key Responsibilities

Parcel Data Portfolio Ownership

  • Own the operational health, quality, and currency of assigned county and regional parcel datasets
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for parcel data outputs within your portfolio
  • Validate that automated pipeline outputs meet quality, completeness, and analytical expectations
  • Monitor and assess recurring updates to ensure data freshness and continuity

Geospatial Data Analysis & Validation

  • Perform geospatial analysis to validate parcel geometry, spatial relationships, and derived attributes
  • Review outputs for geometry integrity (overlaps, gaps, topology errors), CRS consistency, and spatial correctness
  • Use SQL and spatial functions (Postgres/PostGIS, Athena, or similar) to investigate anomalies and outliers
  • Evaluate change detection outputs and distinguish between material and non-material changes
  • Ensure outputs are consistent with real-world conditions and historical patterns

Configuration-Driven Data Operations

  • Configure and maintain YAML-based dataset and processing configurations
  • Adjust configuration parameters to support new data sources, schema changes, or quality improvements
  • Support and validate configuration-driven transformations rather than modifying core pipelines
  • Collaborate on dbt model configuration, testing, and validation as analytics workflows expand

Data Currency & Sourcing Collaboration

  • Partner closely with the Data Acquisitions/Sourcing team to ensure data freshness and coverage
  • Evaluate new endpoints, files, or delivery mechanisms for readiness and reliability
  • Validate incoming data sources prior to operational adoption
  • Track and document data currency expectations and known limitations for assigned counties

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Parcel Data Reviewers to validate outputs and resolve quality issues
  • Provide structured feedback to Data Platform Engineers on recurring operational gaps
  • Support Technical Solutions and Customer Success teams with data investigations and explanations
  • Act as a subject matter resource on parcel data quality and regional nuances

Documentation & Operational Excellence

  • Maintain county-level documentation, assumptions, update cadences, and known data caveats
  • Contribute to runbooks, operational playbooks, and quality standards
  • Identify recurring issues and recommend configuration or process improvements
  • Partner with the Manager, Data Operations on special projects and the buildout of standard operating procedures

What You Bring

  • 2–4+ years of experience working with geospatial data, spatial analytics, or advanced data analysis
  • Strong SQL skills, including experience with spatial databases (e.g., Postgres/PostGIS)
  • Hands-on experience validating and analyzing spatial datasets
  • Familiarity with configuration-driven data systems (YAML, metadata-driven workflows)
  • Ability to reason about data correctness, freshness, and analytical fitness for use
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with comfort owning data quality outcomes
  • Experience with analytics engineering tools such as dbt
  • Familiarity with cloud data environments (AWS, Athena, S3-based data lakes)
  • Exposure to PySpark or distributed data processing outputs (not pipeline development)
  • Experience using GIS tools such as QGIS or GDAL (preferred but not required)
  • Familiarity with parcel, land-use, or public-record data (preferred but not required)

How We Work

A couple things you should know about us:

First, we are pretty obsessed with parcels & parcel data (the lines that define property boundaries). You don’t have to be on day one to work here, but fair warning our focus is singular, and our mission is to bring this fundamental unit of geographic organization to everyone.

Second, we have a collection of rules to work by that we call our “Plats”. Here are a few that should resonate for you if this role is going to be a fit:

1. No “what” without “why”.

Tasks and directives without narrative context and connection to our larger story are not inspiring. Explaining the “why” helps everyone see the purpose of our actions so we can bring more energy and creativity to them.

2. People remember how you made them feel.

It’s just true. Within our team and with our customers, emotions linger longer than specific words or actions. The smallest interaction can leave a lasting impression of trust, care, or disrespect. Even when a conversation isn’t easy, focusing on positive emotional impact builds enduring relationships.

3. Execution is worshipped.

Ideas are the number one best thing going. But ideas come to us, we don’t really create an idea, we just catch them, like fish. Then, the whole thing is translating that idea to some medium. That’s the execution. Without it, the fish just swims away.
