The team

The Route Engineering team develops next-generation technologies that change how millions of consumers see, share, and discover the world's most innovative brands and products. Route Engineers have backgrounds in distributed systems design and development, large-scale data storage and processing systems, UI design, mobile, and much more — but what unites this talented team is a passion for the Route mission to connect the world's commerce through our suite of transformational products.

The opportunity

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Resolve team, you will be at the forefront of creating a world-class experience for customers dealing with claims, returns, and post-purchase issues. You’ll play a critical role in building and scaling backend systems that automate claim resolution, prevent fraud, and equip our Customer Service team with powerful tools to support users.

You’ll join a collaborative, customer-obsessed team that values innovation, ownership, and pragmatism. We're looking for an experienced engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments, has strong backend and cloud expertise, and is excited about solving real customer problems.

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services that power our Claims and Returns lifecycle.
  • Build automated systems to streamline claim resolutions and reduce manual intervention.
  • Develop fraud prevention tools and workflows to protect customers and merchants.
  • Create internal tools and APIs to empower the Customer Service team to provide efficient and effective support.
  • Lead technical design discussions and collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Data, and Support teams.
  • Ensure high standards of code quality, reliability, and performance through code reviews, testing, and documentation.
  • Contribute to infrastructure as code (IaC) and cloud deployment strategies on AWS.

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend development or fullstack.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g., Golang - preferred, Java, C#, Python, etc.).
  • Solid experience with AWS and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Experience with React and frontend development.
  • Proven ability to design and scale distributed systems and APIs.
  • Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Passion for creating seamless, user-friendly experiences.
  • Experience in E-Commerce is a plus.

Pay Transparency

Salary for this role:

National: $176,000 - $186,000

San Francisco Bay Area: $194,000 - $205,000

Los Angeles/ Orange County: $197,000 - $208,000

The cash compensation above includes base salary, and is not reflective of potential commission for employees in eligible roles, or annual bonus targets under Route’s bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, all Route employees are eligible to participate in Routes equity incentive plan to receive stock options per the terms of the agreement. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Individual compensation packages are based on a few different factors unique to each candidate, including their career level, skills, experience, specific geographic location qualifications and other job-related reasons.
