Job description:

Trailhead Biosystems is the pioneer of applying High-Dimensional Design-of-Experiments (HD-DoE) towards understanding systems developmental biology. Trailhead Biosystems seeks a Research Scientist in the field of stem cell biology to develop industry-grade directed differentiation protocols for specialized cells and to help train AI-guided protocol optimization with wet lab experimental verification. The Research Scientist will work in a fast-paced laboratory setting developing cell culture protocols to meet target cell phenotypes. The position involves all aspects of stem cell biology including cell culture and differentiation, as well as protocol and process optimization.

We are looking for an adaptable team player, armed with a growth mind set, organized, and strongly focused on product development. The qualified individual will report directly to the Vice President of Research & Development, and work with a cross-disciplinary team that includes R&D, Bioinformatics, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Commercialization team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, execute and troubleshoot differentiation experiments to achieve target product profiles
  • Test computer-generated experimental designs to drive advanced cell culture workflows; support the training of AI models to accelerate product development timelines
  • Gain deep knowledge into how external factors affect gene and protein expression, cell purity and functionality
  • Use data-driven insights to understand and control variance in cell manufacturing methods, ensuring consistent, high-quality outcomes
  • Collaborate with team members and across departments to achieve defined objectives
  • Give data presentations of results, sharing observations, opinions, and findings for open discussion between teams
  • Prepare scientific reports for relevant stakeholders within the company.
  • Create, follow and update SOPs for generating and assessing products
  • Ensure the company’s procedures, policies, and protocols are followed
  • Maintain a safe lab environment for all by enforcing legal and organizational regulations and standards
  • Represent the company both locally and nationally through poster or oral presentations

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a PhD in stem cell biology or applied developmental biology with a minimum of 5 years' experience
  • Comprehensive expertise in iPSC culture techniques and practices
  • Experience with suspension mammalian culture is a plus
  • Experience in biomanufacturing, bioreactor cultures or related disciplines
  • Experience with cellular and molecular assays including immunocytochemistry, qPCR and flow cytometry
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented and efficient at executing high quality experiments
  • Flexible and adaptable mindset. Willing to learn new methodologies that align with company's methodologies; willing to reprioritize efforts based on company’s strategic objectives
  • Can thrive independently or while working as part of a team
  • Willing to work flexible hours as necessary
  • Able to travel per project requirements less than 10% of the time
