The Compliance Business Unit is at the heart of UberEther's Advantage platform, delivering FedRAMP and DoD IL5 authorization services that accelerate time-to-authority for federal and commercial customers. As Senior Architect, you will serve as the technical visionary and integrator across our Platform Engineering, Customer Success, and Systems & Security Operations (SoC) teams—ensuring architectural consistency, technical excellence, and seamless delivery of compliance solutions.

Responsibilities

Strategic Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the principal technical authority for the Compliance BU, providing architectural guidance and technical direction across Platform Engineering, Customer Success, and SoC teams
  • Define and maintain the technical vision and roadmap for the Advantage platform capabilities, ensuring alignment with FedRAMP High, DoD IL5, and emerging compliance requirements
  • Lead cross-functional architecture reviews and design sessions to ensure consistency, scalability, and security across customer deployments
  • Drive technical decision-making for complex compliance scenarios, including multi-cloud architectures, control inheritance models, and continuous monitoring strategies
  • Partner with the Senior Leadership team to translate business objectives into technical initiatives and quarterly rocks
  • Establish and maintain architectural standards, design patterns, and technical best practices across the compliance delivery lifecycle

Engineering Excellence & Platform Architecture

  • Own the end-to-end technical architecture for Advantage deployments across AWS GovCloud, GCP, and commercial cloud environments
  • Lead the design and evolution of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates, ensuring they meet FedRAMP and DoD security control requirements
  • Drive automation initiatives that reduce deployment time and improve compliance evidence collection
  • Provide technical leadership for complex engineering challenges, including container security, network segmentation, encryption strategies, and secure CI/CD pipelines
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to enhance GitLab automation, Terraform modules, and secure deployment tooling
  • Champion DevSecOps practices and ensure security controls are built into the development process from day one

Customer Success & Technical Advisory

  • Serve as the escalation point for complex technical questions from Customer Success team and clients
  • Lead technical architecture workshops and design sessions with customers during onboarding and throughout the compliance lifecycle
  • Provide expert guidance on System Security Plan (SSP) technical architecture sections and control implementation strategies
  • Support sales and business development activities by providing technical expertise during customer briefings and proposal development
  • Translate customer requirements into actionable technical designs that align with Advantage standard deployment models
  • Drive continuous improvement based on customer feedback, audit findings, and evolving compliance requirements

Security Operations & Compliance Integration

  • Work closely with SoC team to ensure monitoring capabilities, security dashboards, and incident response procedures align with architectural standards
  • Lead the technical design of compliance automation solutions, including continuous monitoring, vulnerability management, and security control validation
  • Provide architectural guidance for security runbooks, remediation procedures, and system hardening standards
  • Support 3PAO assessments and audits by explaining technical architectures and control implementations
  • Drive innovation in Policy as Code implementations and automated compliance evidence collection
  • Ensure proper integration between compliance tooling, identity management platforms, and Zero Trust architectures

Cross-Team Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Foster technical collaboration across Platform Engineering, Customer Success, and SoC teams through regular architectural syncs and design reviews
  • Mentor engineers and technical staff on cloud architecture, compliance frameworks, and secure design principles
  • Lead retrospectives and continuous improvement initiatives focused on technical delivery excellence
  • Participate in and contribute to Level 10 (L10) meetings, providing technical insights and addressing cross-team dependencies
  • Develop and deliver technical training content to upskill team members on emerging technologies and compliance requirements
  • Serve as a technical ambassador, representing UberEther at industry conferences and contributing to thought leadership

Primary Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related technical field; Master's degree preferred
  • 12+ years of experience in cloud architecture, DevOps, cybersecurity, or related technical fields
  • 5+ years of experience in technical leadership roles with demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Proven track record of architecting and delivering FedRAMP and/or DoD IL2-IL6 authorized systems
  • Deep experience with federal compliance frameworks, including NIST 800-53, Risk Management Framework (RMF), and continuous monitoring requirements

Technical Expertise

  • Expert-level knowledge of AWS services and AWS GovCloud with relevant certifications (AWS Solutions Architect Professional or AWS Security Specialty required)
  • Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, security controls, and compliance capabilities
  • Deep expertise in Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible) and GitOps workflows
  • Strong understanding of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) in secure, air-gapped, and compliance-focused environments
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Identity and Access Management solutions and Zero Trust architecture principles
  • Experience with security tooling including SAST, DAST, vulnerability scanning, and compliance automation platforms

Compliance & Security Knowledge

  • Expert understanding of FedRAMP requirements, authorization processes, and continuous compliance obligations
  • Deep knowledge of NIST 800-53 security controls and their technical implementation across cloud environments
  • Strong familiarity with DoD security requirements (SRGs), IL2-IL6 specifications, and Assessment & Authorization (A&A) processes
  • Experience with FISMA, FIPS 140-2, Common Criteria, and FedRAMP requirements
  • Proven ability to translate compliance requirements into technical architectures and control implementations

Leadership & Communication

  • Exceptional communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences including executives, customers, assessors, and technical teams
  • Proven ability to lead without direct authority, influencing technical direction across multiple teams
  • Strong customer-facing skills with experience presenting technical architectures to federal customers and compliance assessors
  • Demonstrated project management and prioritization skills with ability to manage competing technical initiatives
  • Track record of building consensus and driving technical decisions in fast-paced, dynamic environments

Differentiators

  • Active security clearance (Secret or higher)
  • Professional certifications: CISSP, CISA, CISM, AWS/GCP certifications, TOGAF, or Zachman Framework
  • Experience with federal contracting, GSA schedules, or government consulting
  • Background in software development, system architecture, or enterprise architecture practices
  • Published thought leadership in cloud security, compliance automation, or Zero Trust architectures
  • Experience with compliance automation frameworks such as OSCAL, InSpec, or similar Policy as Code tools

Location

This role is offered as a hybrid or remote position based out of our Sterling, VA office. The role requires eligibility for a US Secret clearance which includes being a US Citizen and passing a clean background check. Please ensure you meet all eligibility requirements before applying.

Salary

The base salary range for this position is between $180,000-$220,000 depending on experience.
