Clarity on the Role:

The Senior Manager, Underwriting will lead Wellvana’s underwriting strategy and execution to optimize performance within CMS/CMMI ACO models. This role oversees the development of tools, methodologies, and assumptions that drive accurate risk assessment and financial projections, while ensuring alignment across Finance, Actuarial, and key business teams. The position will manage complex workflows, validate modeling accuracy, and innovate processes using advanced techniques such as AI/ML to deliver faster, more precise insights. Acting as a key liaison and educator, this leader will foster collaboration and continuous improvement to support Wellvana’s growth and strategic objectives.

What's Expected:

  • Lead the underwriting function strategy across current and prospective clients in CMS ACO models to optimize performance for Wellvana and our partners
  • Coordinate and lead regular cross-function forums between actuarial and underwriting team members and key stakeholders within Wellvana including, but not limited to, Growth, Partner Success, and Strategy teams with the goal of understanding data and modeling needs to meet Wellvana objectives
  • Coordinate and lead development of enterprise tools needed based on stakeholder requirements, including alignment with Finance and Analytics systems and critical processes.
  • Collaborate with Actuarial leadership to establish assumption governance for all models and tools
  • Manage and test assumptions for tools and models across current and prospective clients
  • Manage workflow and participate in supporting innovative ad-hoc underwriting requests
  • Lead and complete validation study design and complete studies on underwriting modeling and tool projections
  • Innovate underwriting methodologies, processes, and insights using AI/ML techniques to produce improvements in projections
  • Develop material and lead education sessions on underwriting process and projections for key stakeholders
  • Identify key barriers and recommend investments to improve overall underwriting process
Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management or a related field is common, with an MBA or advanced degree preferred

Certifications:

  • Credentialed as either Associate or Fellow of Society of Actuaries a plus.

Years of Related Experience:

  • 6-8 years of underwriting experience with a minimum of 3 years with direct CMS/CMMI ACO underwriting and modeling experience
