Data Architect

CHAMP is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Data Architect to join our Data and Analytics Team. As a Data Architect, you will design and govern the enterprise data architecture that underpins the vehicle title, registration, and driver data states rely on to serve the public and prepare for what comes next. That data arrives from dozens of disparate, often legacy systems, each with its own formats and rules. Architecture is what turns it into a single, reliable source of truth. You will define data flows from transactional sources through transformation into analytics-ready structures, using cloud-native technologies and modern architectural best practices. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in data modeling and system design with strong technical fluency in Python and SQL, and can translate business needs into scalable, well-governed data solutions.

What You'll Do

• Data Architecture Design: Define and own the end-to-end data architecture strategy, including data flow, storage, and integration patterns across the ODS, Data Warehouse, and Data Marts to achieve scalability, performance, and reliability.
• Data Modeling & Standards: Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models that support normalization, standardization, and consistency across disparate source systems. Set enterprise-wide standards for schema design and data quality.
• ETL & Pipeline Strategy: Architect resilient, cloud-native ETL/ELT frameworks and patterns that populate the ODS from transactional sources and transform data into the Data Warehouse. Guide engineering teams on implementation while ensuring the architecture supports performance, fault tolerance, and scalability.
• Technical Governance: Evaluate and select tools, platforms, and cloud services that align with the organization's data strategy. Define data governance policies covering data lineage, quality, security, and access control.
• BI & Analytics Enablement: Guide the design of query and reporting layers that support business intelligence tools and dashboards, ensuring optimized, standardized structures for downstream analytics and reporting workflows.
• Architecture Documentation: Own comprehensive documentation of the data architecture, data definitions, data flow diagrams, and design decisions. Ensure documentation is accessible and clear to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Technical Leadership: Provide architectural guidance and mentorship to data engineers and analysts. Lead design reviews, establish team processes, and champion continuous improvement in how the organization builds and manages data systems.
• Collaboration and Communication: Partner with business and technical stakeholders across the organization to align data architecture with strategic goals. Communicate complex architectural concepts clearly to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise and help foster a data-driven culture.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in data engineering, database design, or data architecture, including hands-on work with Python, SQL, and ETL development, plus demonstrated experience designing data models and architectures at scale.

Technical Skills:

• Strong Python skills, particularly for data pipeline design and validation (e.g., Pandas).
• Deep proficiency in SQL and expertise in relational and dimensional database design.
• Proven experience architecting ETL/ELT pipelines and evaluating ETL tools and frameworks.
• Expert understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas), and data mart design.
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms and services (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their architectural trade-offs.
• Working knowledge of data governance, security, and access-control principles.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to evaluate complex systems and data flows to design solutions that balance performance, scalability, and maintainability.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical architecture decisions into business value for non-technical audiences.

Salary Range

The expected salary range for this position is $140,000-$160,000 annually. This is a good faith estimate, and final compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and geographic location.
