The Opportunity
As Vice President of Tax – Americas, you are the senior tax leader for our growth-oriented organization operating across North, Central, and South America. You define and execute the regional tax strategy, with oversight of income tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing, tax accounting, compliance, controversy, and planning across multiple jurisdictions.
You act as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, partnering closely with Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, HR, and business leaders to manage risk, support growth, optimize cash tax and effective tax rate outcomes, and ensure strong governance. You lead and develop a team of approximately 12–15 tax professionals, while building the capabilities, structures, and processes needed to support evolving business priorities.
In this role, you drive meaningful impact by safeguarding compliance, strengthening governance, and enabling business growth—while enhancing earnings quality, improving cash flow, and optimizing Hitachi Energy’s overall tax position across the Americas.
How you will make an impact
Regional Tax Strategy & Business Partnership
- You lead the Americas tax strategy and act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership
- You provide guidance on income tax, cross-border structuring, M&A, indirect taxes, and regulatory developments
- You define and deliver a tax roadmap aligned with business growth and performance
Tax Planning, Transfer Pricing & Structuring
- You lead transfer pricing strategy, governance, and audit defense
- You drive tax planning initiatives to optimize cash tax and effective tax rate
- You advise on intercompany transactions, supply chain, and financing structures
Compliance, Provision & Governance
- You ensure accurate, timely tax compliance across the Americas
- You own the regional tax provision and reporting in partnership with Accounting and auditors
- You maintain a strong control environment and ensure audit readiness
Tax Controversy & Risk Management
- You lead tax audits, disputes, and interactions with authorities
- You identify and mitigate tax risks related to business activities and regulatory changes
- You serve as the escalation point for complex tax matters
Leadership & Team Development
- You lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team across the region
- You set clear priorities, drive accountability, and foster collaboration
- You build capabilities through talent development and effective use of external partners
Operational Excellence & Cross-Functional Partnership
- You partner with key functions to integrate tax into business decisions
- You drive simplification, standardization, and automation of processes
- You manage budget, external advisors, and service delivery
Your Background
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, JD, MST, or LLM preferred
- 15+ years of tax experience, including leadership in a multinational and/or Big 4 environment
- Strong expertise in corporate tax, tax accounting, and cross-border matters across the Americas
- Proven ability to lead high-performing, multi-country teams in matrix organizations
- Experience advising senior leadership on M&A, restructuring, and financing decisions
- Strategic mindset with strong commercial acumen, stakeholder influence, and sound judgment
