purpose.jobs is growing! Introducing JKatz.

I’ve never considered myself a front row yoga girl.

You know, the student that puts their mat in the front of the room, boldly portraying confidence in their craft. Yeah, that wasn’t me. I’m more middle of the pack — carefully watching other students to make sure I’m doing things right.

That all changed one day.

On that day, I was late to class. I just caught the door before the locks clicked. And the last spot in the class was the one I dreaded most: Front and center.

Panic. Set. In.

Again,
I would usually never choose to be up front. But in that moment, I felt something come over me. I decided to own it. I doubt that I was perfect that day. But choosing to take a leap of faith, ignore my fear, and embrace the moment was incredibly freeing. It forced me inward and I focused more on my movements — two reasons I decided to try yoga in the first place.

I promise: This is going somewhere.

As I’m sure you noticed from the headline, I’m starting on a new journey. In many ways, taking this job is me “moving to the front of the class.” It’s part of a professional journey that — for much of my career — has stayed inside of my comfort zone. But this job — and this company, specifically — will let me step outside and discover that sense of freedom.

A Little About Me

I was born and raised in Michigan, but I didn’t always imagine I’d be working in downtown Detroit.

Fresh out of college, I stayed in East Lansing and spent a few years as the Program Director for a student center. Recognizing how I enjoyed helping students connect and figure out their next steps, I decided to pursue a Master’s degree from Loyola University in Chicago.

Chicago was great and I decided to continue my big city life by moving to Manhattan to work for a non-profit. Eventually, I realized that you can love an organization or company, but that doesn’t always make the job itself the right fit. This is a key realization. *Hint, hint, keep reading, especially if this sounds like you. So, I decided to make the move home to Michigan.

Skipping forward, I spent the past few years doing Recruitment and People Development at Moosejaw — a company that allowed me to be myself and explore new things.

In helping my peers and employees figure out their next steps, I began to carve my own path. Between Moosejaw and becoming more involved in my community, I learned to step up and step out of my comfort zone. That confidence that took me to the front of my yoga class also put me at the front of meetings, conference rooms, and connecting with those around me. I recognized a theme throughout my various jobs and journey: Helping people and providing education.

btw, this is me in NYC

So, Why purpose.jobs?

That’s where purpose.jobs comes in.

When Ryan and I connected, he spoke my language. Purpose.jobs core values aligned with my own and I found myself with an opportunity to contribute to a company’s outlook in a tangible and innovative way. Not only would I be able to contribute to the company, I’d also contribute to helping people find their own purpose.

At the end of the day, that’s what we — and I — want to help you find with purpose.jobs.

Our goal is to match you with opportunities that not only utilize your strengths, but harness your creative mind. We want to support you and be your cheerleader as you find your way to the front row. We know that you’re not interested in just any job, you want a job tailored to your unique skills and abilities.

Simply put: We’re going to help you gain the confidence to move to the front of the class, and we’re going to be your cheerleader — helping you gain the fresh perspective you need to find not just an opportunity, but the right opportunity.

Together we can transform what was once a hair-pulling affair spent frantically agonizing over cover letters and exhausting search engines into a process that is pain-free – and dare I say enjoyable.
