Detroit-based tech startup ChurchSpace announced the successful closing of a $1.2 million seed funding round, led by Black Ops Ventures with participation from Minor Capital and Michigan Rise. ChurchSpace also launched a historic partnership with the City of Detroit and received support from Mayor Mike Duggan, who welcomed ChurchSpace's headquarters relocation from Houston to Detroit.
ChurchSpace is a mission-driven platform working toward activating underutilized sacred spaces for modern-day community use. Detroit’s spiritual legacy and entrepreneurial spirit support the company’s mission. ChurchSpace helps churches transform underused spaces, such as fellowship halls, classrooms, and kitchens, into income-generating venues for events, outreach programs, and last-mile delivery services. It also opens the doors to unique community venues for the local community to host events and gatherings.
For churches, it’s not just about space — it’s about sustainability. Many use their new revenue streams to fund programs like youth mentorship, food distribution, and community outreach. In Texas, some churches using the platform have earned up to $100,000 annually, reinvesting those funds back into their neighborhoods.
With this new funding, ChurchSpace plans to expand its operations in Detroit, onboarding local churches to participate in the citywide partnership to revitalize sacred spaces for modern community use. The company projects the creation of hundreds of jobs in logistics support, event hosting, and technical services.
"This raise is more than a business milestone — it’s a testament to what happens when strategy meets faith," said Emmanuel Brown, Co-CEO of ChurchSpace, in a press release. "In today’s climate, raising capital takes grit and resilience, especially without deep networks or traditional access."
Mayor Mike Duggan expressed his support, stating, "We welcome ChurchSpace’s investment in Detroit, and the jobs and innovation it will bring. Our faith community has long been a critical backbone of our neighborhoods. Through ChurchSpace’s groundbreaking work, they will continue to be anchors of opportunity and resilience in our city’s future."
ChurchSpace is inviting Detroit churches to apply for its pilot program, which will equip selected churches with tools for space sharing, revenue generation, and logistics support.
